Shy (Retractile) Testis in Children

What is a retractile testicle?

The testicle is of normal size and can be lowered into the scrotum by hand; but is attracted to the inguinal canal by cold, fear or touch. This condition is different from retractile (shy) testicle and usually resolves with puberty.

Follow-up

Regular examination is recommended. If the testicle is not permanent in the scrotum or the size is small, undescended testicle should be differentiated.

When is the surgery?

If the testicle remains constantly up or the scrotum development is behind, orchidopexy is considered.

The video about the examination technique and follow-up is below.
